Hi. I’m Shoki.

I’m a branding and advertising creative based in Boston. I’ve written names, taglines, and ads for a lot of brands through my career. I’ve written and directed videos, built brand voices and tones from scratch— I’ve even designed a door handle and written a blanket.

I’ve won a number of industry awards, including 4 Hatch Awards, a Viddy, a couple Web Awards, and a fistful of real-estate marketing accolades.

An Anecdote:

When my mom was raising my older brother, she read him all the standard Japanese kid’s stories-- tales about kind villagers and talking animals. But then she got bored.

When she had me, she started finding the weirdest, darkest, and most morally ambiguous stories she could get her hands on.

The one I remember most vividly was told in the second person: You’d walk into this empty restaurant in the wilderness, into a small room with a door and a sink, with a sign that says to wash your hands. Through that door, you’d find a bottle of buttery lotion and another door—with a sign telling you to lotion up. That would go on until you've prepared yourself to be cooked and served.

This is the stuff I grew up on, and this is the stuff that made me love storytelling.
